Today I am going to answer a few frequently asked questions about hair extensions.
Can hair extensions cause hair loss?
They totally can, but that has largely to do on both your installer, the method that was installed, and how you take care of them at home.
It is very, very important that you follow your stylist’s instructions for at home care and that your stylist installs them correctly.
Here at Luna Jade we put a lot of time into practicing extensions. We have quite a few certifications amongst the team!
Can hair extensions get wet?
They totally can. Anytime you're getting into a pool or the ocean or anything like that, you want to do a really good detox or clarifying shampoo after your extensions have gotten wet. Follow it up with a really great deep conditioner. This will just help keep the pH balanced. It’ll help you retain color and keep your scalp and hair healthier!
Can extensions cause headaches?
They can, largely due to the fact that regardless of the kind of extensions that you have put in, regardless of the method that you have, there is now more tension on your head. So if you are someone who experiences and deals with a lot of tension headaches, they might not be a great idea for you.
If you are getting extensions to fill, meaning your hair doesn’t grow very well, that is not going to be nearly as challenging as when you are using extensions for length and volume. Length and volume is going to be a lot more density and can increase the risk of tension headaches.
Can hair extensions be reused?
Absolutely. Hair extensions can be reused, again depending on your method and quality of hair. They can be reused 3-6 times. I have plenty of clients who we buy hair once a year. They made the initial investment and they make that initial investment once every 12 to 16 months.
Can hair extensions be colored?
Yes, they can be. We tone them all the time to match your natural hair. We will add a root to get them to blend into your natural hair. The kind of extensions that we use, you're able to color. Sometimes they're made with a coating, and it's very difficult to color them, but our in-house brand extensions can absolutely be colored.
Can extension be curled?
Your hair extensions can be straightened or curled. You want to keep your heat really low, somewhere in the 280 to 300 range is better. NEVER anything over 350 and always use a heat protectant. But yes, they can absolutely be curled or straightened depending on your preference.
