I wanted to take a moment to share some pro tips to help us prepare for the upcoming chilly season. It’s going to be a busy time, filled with school and family activities, which is exciting!
Here are a few recommendations to get ready for the changes ahead:
Satin Bonnet or Pillowcase: If you haven’t done so already, invest in a satin bonnet or a satin/silk pillowcase. They’re around $15-20, last for months, and work wonders for all hair types. This small change can significantly reduce friction and loss of hydration while preserving your hairstyle. You can find them at TJ Maxx, online, or soon at our salon! They make great gifts too!
Deep Conditioning Treatment: Incorporate a weekly or biweekly deep conditioning treatment focused on hydration. Winter air can dry out our hair. Look for options like Iuveni mask, Lanza’s Moisture mask, or Amika’s hydrating treatments. This will help with static cling, split ends, and overall manageability.
Stay Hydrated: Remember to drink enough water! Cold weather can mask dehydration, but our bodies still need it. If plain water isn’t your favorite, find ways to make it more enjoyable. Proper hydration benefits your skin, hair, nails, and mental health. Fun fact: dehydration can actually increase feelings of depression!
Multivitamins: Adding a good multivitamin to your daily routine can be a game changer for your overall health, including hair and scalp health. If you don’t already take vitamins, consider investing in a good multivitamin to ensure your body gets balanced nutrients.
Water Temperature: Lastly, try to keep your shower water more tepid. Hot water can disrupt your moisture barrier, leading to dryness and quicker color fade. Aim to wash your hair in the coolest water you can tolerate—it really makes a difference!
I hope these tips are helpful and easily incorporated into your routine! Start these routines now and maintain consistency throughout winter to notice a positive change.
