Winter hair care is very different from what we do in the summer.
We deal with static electricity, dryness and here in Alabama it can be really wet one week and it can be super dry the next week. So there's a few little things that we want to change when winter comes around.
One of the things that's super important is hydrating and using good moisturizing products. My recommendation is to switch from serums to creams.
Think about having a product that has got just a little bit more punch to it. Something that's gonna be more hydrating than maybe what you would use in the summer.
One of my favorite things to use is the Restoring Balm by Schwarzkopf. This is a great go-to product anytime you're dealing with like a little bit of frizz.
You wanna always emulsify products in your hands so that you're not just lobbing them on your hair. It should be completely into your hands and then you just wanna rub it over your hair.
But you don't wanna be just dumping loads of moisturizing products onto your hair because that is just going to make it oily. You wanna really work that product in, and it just soothes, softens everything.
Another great product would be Trauma Treatment. It can be used as a mask after you take a shower. It's really great for repairing damaged hair and protecting your hair against UV rays or heat rays.
It uses a flower shield complex that actually heals your hair while it's on the hair. You can use it as a mask and rinse it off, or you can use it as a leave-in conditioner as well.
A good way to know if a product is actually getting into your hair or not is after you've rubbed it in.
If you can scrape it off your palm and there's a product under your cuticles that means it's not actually going into your hair. If it can't get into your skin, it can't get into your hair.
Some things that you want to avoid would be coconut oil or putting egg whites and things like that on your hair. Those things just sit on the outside of the hair. They don't actually penetrate into the cuticle and do anything. It gives this false sense of shine and hydration when it's just on the surface of the hair. It'll shampoo out immediately without doing any sort of good. But the other side of that is it can cause a lot of buildup.
Then, when we go in to use professional products of color, it can cause unevenness like banding and things like that. So the best thing to do is to come into the salon and either purchase professional product or use at home or add on a deep conditioning treatment or a treatment of some kind when you're actually here in the salon.
My final product recommendation for the winter is going to be any kind of oil. So this one's really affordable. This is the Kinra Lux Shine Oil. That will help with UV protection and heat protection as well.
It adds a lot of shine and an oil, most of the time for us, blondes or anyone with gray or coarser hair. Oils and creams are going to be, you know, a better product than maybe like a spray or something that's really thin because you need just a little bit more, you need a little bit more strength in the products that you're using.
An oil, something like a trauma treatment, a leaving conditioner, or an end seal, or any of those things are going to add a lot of shine, help you if you hear some protection throughout the season, and then also help you avoid static clink.
I hope these tips and tricks were helpful.
